In case of full storage wipe.

Hey guys.

I just moved from my Samsung Galaxy S4 to the Oneplus One few weeks ago. I had rooted the S4 and I am familiar with the whole rom flashing and kernel changing process. I usually store the file I want to flash in the SD card and flash it via TWRP. But the OPO doesn't have a external slot. This is making me think if I should root my phone or not since there is a chance of me wiping the OS off along with the data. I always take a nandroid backup but what if the backup itself is deleted from my phone? Is there a way to prevent this from happening?

Thanks in advance!
