[Q] - Unlocking the bootloader, TWRP, rooting and (OTA) updates

Hi folks,
I recently got a Moto G 2nd gen. LTE that came shipped with 5.0.2 installed (the exact model is XT1072).
Now my plan is to unlock the bootloader, flash TWRP and root the phone using this tool. As far as I can see this should work fine as the device is supported and there's a TWRP version available.
My question now is: As Marshmallow is officially confirmed and I already found out that flashing a custom recovery will "break" OTA, how could I get the update once it will be released, hence will I be able to obtain further updates once I run a custom recovery and "am" rooted - as far as I know the unlocked bootloader does not affect the OTA/update functionality.

Sony Xperia Compact Unlocking

Hi there, I try to network unlock my Sony Xperia Z1 compact to be able to use it on another network. I called my phone provider and they gave me a code.
Unfortunately it does not work. They ask me to send the phone to a weird electronic company that does not look directly related with Sony.

I don't really want to buy a code from all these unlock web sites and I like the challenge to do it by myself. I ask you guys if there is a generator that can generate the code for me or even an algorithm available to the public or even a way to flash the phone to do the job.

Lollipop - Unlocking bootloader and rooting

I am on the newest firmware (5.1.1) and i want to unlock bootloader and then root my M2. So... Should i return to 4.3.3* (KK or JB) to unlock bootloader? After UBL i can use tutorial for root (i saw it here) or i have to make some other steps?


*i saw info that its better when we unlock bootloader on JB/KK because of partitions (???).

some weird screen after unlocking bootloader in yureka plus

it happens only after flashed something , then while rebooting system the screen glitch appers
but it rides off and get into UI, in UI i havent faced any such glitches
any faced the same thing ? :D

Unlocking bootloader on Windows 8.1?

Hello, I am new on HOX forums and I've tried to unlock my bootloader and install custom recovery on my HOX but I can't make it work. Are there any special drivers for Windows 8.1, or it can only be done on Windows 7?

need help all roms fell in bootloop unlocking the bootloader, even with cwn recovery

So me start from the beginning , my phone C2104 was completely updated i used this method to unlock my bootloader and used flashtool http://forum.xda-developers.com/xper...cking-t2337955, it unlocked and fell into bootloop so i continued with the method used flashmode to flash C2105_15.0.A.1.31_CE.ftf Stock Rom via Flash tool it worked and i was out of bootloop then i tried few method to root the device didn't workout i found this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/xper...el-v6-t2321550 followed it got the CWM recovery started then i flashed Glade Rom V-2.0 and CM11-23FEB both go into bootloop and yes tried flashmode to flash C2105_15.0.A.1.31_CE.ftf Stock Rom again didn't work only errors and now guys come in need your help and guidance and thank you..

Will Rooting Without Unlocking The Bootloader Void Warranty?

So I am here today to ask the question, Will rooting my nexus 5 without unlocking the boot-loader void my t mobile warranty?
My Phone is an LG Nexus 5 running the latest Version of lollipop and the only reason i want to root it is to be able to connect my ps3 controller to it and play emulators or minecraft, so if anybody has any answer for both of my problems and knows how to fix them, please tell me :). Help unlocking phone please

My daughter has a sprint galaxy note 4 and last night she was watching Hulu and her phone jumped to the password screen, problem is the fingerprint scanner doesnt show up and her password isnt unlocking the phone (wrong password). Im an apple user myself and am clueless to her phone, ive called sprint and they suggested a factory reboot, problem is she has pictures on her phone of her grandmother that passed away and doesnt want to lose them ofcourse. She doesnt have the debugg active and no way to access that that i know of because the phone is locked, is there a way to take off the lock? :confused:

Help unlocking the Huawei H876G for Net10/Tracphone

Let me start by saying that I am a complete noob when it comes to android and I wanted to ask the experts here. I purchased this phone (The Huawei Inspira H867G) from tracphone, but cant find any information on unlocking this device anywhere.. not even on the Huawei site.. i called them and they are not aware of this device, I read on another forum that the T-Mobile U8686 is the same phone but rebranded.

I am trying to unlock the device, i have purchased the unlock code, but unlike other phones where you put in a foreign SIM and device aks for network unlock code, this phone just does not ask for the unlock code..

no matter what SIM i put it just says "SIM Locked" with a DISMISS button.

does any one know of a way to bypass this and still enter the unlock code? Or how i can modify some settings so that it asks for the unlock code?

I have googled and searched high and low for over a month and just found some clues but no real idea on how to start. From what I can tell I first have to root the phone and then unlock the bootloader, then find a ROM and install it somehow? Am I correct? Any ideas?

Unlocking the bootloader and Wiping Data

Hi,

I've did a little research about unlocking bootloader on the moto X Play and I found out that this process wipes all your phones data.

Question is....

Does the External SD Card remain untouched. So if I complete a Helium Backup and store that said backup on the External SD Card I will then be able to restore all my data back onto the phone?

As you may imagine the main purpose of the Unlocking Bootloader is to be able to root the phone and install custom ROM on it. The main issue I have with stock ROM is that the External SD card runs independent of the Internal Storage and I'm finding that I run out of room really quickly.

Is there a custom rom that will enable me to use MicroSD card to EXTEND internal storage?

ASUS Unlocking Tool Not working

Since ASUS changed its website since 2014 and changed the way you unlock your device, I have been trying to unlock my tablet with the unlock tool for TF701t. (Which btw is going out of warranty next week). I've been getting "Invalid Password" message! Password is correct. Does anyone know how to get pass this issue. What am I doing wrong? The firmware is on the most current one. I'm dumb founded??? Please help.:( Thank You.

Rooting without unlocking bootloader

Just took delivery of my phone yesterday and love it. I want to use Titanium Backup as well as sshd on the device so I would like to root the device. I have a Titanium backup from my old S4 on the SD card now in the Moto but can't restore items and settings.

So.... after reading the post in the forum regarding "Read this before unlocking", I would like to at least have some burn-in time before unlocking the bootloader. So is there a way to root the device without a customer recovery? If not, it will be a bummer, but not a show stopper. One of the reasons I got the Moto was because Motorola provided a way to unlock the bootloader.

Unlocking bootloader and installing Custom recovery [Sprout4] [Marshmallow 6.0]

So i have successfully installed a custom recovery on my phone running Marshmallow and also unlocked the bootloader!
Its quite simple actually! ;)
I am not responsible for any damage you make to your phone!

Steps-
1. Download the zip file from the link and extract it.

2. Install both the drivers and then proceed!(The drivers are universal and work for Windows 98,xp,vista,7,8,8.1,10 but in 8,8.1,10 you might need to turn off the digital signature verification-Make good use of google:D)

3.After installing the drivers , connect your phone in switched on and remember to turn on usb debugging in the dev options!

4. Open the unlock_bootloader_... and run the .bat file and follow the on screen steps( All the data will be formatted so make a backup beforehand)

5.After doing this you will void your warranty so make sure you know what you are doing!

6. Now again connect your phone in switched on mode and usb debugging on and run the .bat file of recover installer.. and follow the on screen steps!

7. The default recovery in that folder is Philz Touch but you can download any recovery from this forum and replace the default with the new one!

8.Boom!! Now you have a phone with unlocked bootloader and a custom recovery installed on marshmallow!!:cool: :cool:

9.Flash custom Kernels,Boot Animations, Logos and root your phone running marshmallow and brag!

Random apps opening upon unlocking the phone.

I'm using Nova launcher, and fingerprint to unlock. 90% of the time I unlock my phone a random app opens up.

Anyone else been having this issue? First I thought I was hitting the icons by accident, but then apps that aren't even on my home screen started to open themselves.
