Help me understand File structure information when using TWRP

I've used twrp a couple times now don't understand the basic file structure of Android and what folders contain what.

If someone direct me to explanation of this it would be greatly appreciated.
I want to know the folder structure and be explained there basic content.

When using TWRP, to backup up or restore, I'm not sure what folders to select to be backed up or to restore and the concequence of selection the wrong ones.

How can I add jar and odex file to framework folder?

I have a Galaxy Young Duos TV (GT-S6313T), and I'm using a Galaxy Young Duos (GT-S6312) ROM, X-Sam Duos.

Trying to port TV to this ROM, I've searched in stock ROM all files that have "broadcast", "nex", "ltn" and "one seg" in its name. Then I copied them to new installation, including TV apk and odex.

I get two behaviors: if I put all files found in ROM, less the /system/framework files, ROM boot normally, but TV app doesn't appear. If I put all, including the frameworks, ROM doesn't boot, get stuck in Samsung animation.

What can I do?

Can't select .ab file for Titanium Backup Pro

Hi there,

I made a backup of my phone's data using adb backup (data only) and now want to use Titanium Backup Pro to restore some of it to my phone after a data wipe when I unlocked the bootloader. I'm trying to follow their kb article on restoring from a .ab backup but when I try to select my file it's simply greyed out and I cannot select it.

I'm using a Sony Xperia Z C6603 rooted with TWRP on the stock rom and all.

Cheers

Need help extracting backup file.

I made a backup with the stock "android recovery 3e". Anyway to extract it? It's a ".backup" file and I can't open it whatever i try. It's not a nandroid backup, but with an "backup" extension. I've been searching for three days now and so far haven't found anything. There were some other threads with the same topic too but no solution was posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Android File gets stuck at 44% only during SP Flashing

Hi,

I hope someone could help me about my A3000 device. I have done flashing my tablet for the first time and it worked fine after that (following the steps from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/leno...-call-t2441135). Unfortunately, after a few weeks, I have installed a lot of apps and it crashed or simply not working anymore.

I tried to do flashing again for the second time but unluckily, it doesn't take effect anymore. It always gets stuck at 44% of flashing, (ticked all the files displaying in the SP flash tool through the scatter file). Now, I tried flashing the files one by one. I found out that the ANDROID file has the problem. It won't completely download. All the other files like Recovery, Bootimg, UBOOT, EBR1 etc. works fine and it confirms with the "DOWNLOAD OK."

I have tried different options with Firmware Upgrade, Format all + Download etc. I also did perform Format in the SP Flash Tool before Downloading.

I hope you guys can suggest what step I should do next.

Thanks!

OTA Update (N910AUCU2DOI2) Can Anyone can upload there zip file Please?

Hi,

My phone shows that the update to 5.1.1 is avaible but at this time I have no WiFi, I have hooked up my desktop and my Window Tablet to my Hotspot to try and trick it with no luck :crying:

I'm over my 2gb limit but my throttling is very funky, I will get great speeds at times, even been able to download few movies overnight via Torrrents and CD collections.

I am stuck cause Kies will not show me a update allowed. Still showing me I have the latest firmware. I know a few people have gotten it already its almost 700mb, can anyone that has it copy it from there device and upload it for the few of us to be able to flash via Odin? I helped out and uploaded my 5.1.1 when I was on the T-Mobile S5 and uploaded it to MEGA and a torrent from my computer. Hopefully someone will help. I tried a few ways but I can't see to get KIES 3 to see a update. Idk why Kies wouldn't see it but my phone does, is this region based? Also Sammobile has nothing for firmware for the N910A which I assume is due to AT&T and there efforts to stopping from trying to make it easy to mess with the bootloaders on 5.0+

Thanks

Sorry If I posted in the wrong area, Im not use to the AT&T Note4 being so unsupported. I have only had the Galaxy S3, S4 and S5 for T-Mobile until a few months ago when I got the N910A

I need the "lk.bin" file for devices with similar specs: Mt6572S_00, 5 inch, 512 ram

Hello.

I have an Unusual 50x smartphone. This is a rather small company from Spain, I suppose they are just rebranding chinese smartphones, and this is why I can't find a rom that would work with it. They do not have a stock rom for this device on their website unfortunately.

The specifications are:

Mtk6572S_00, 512 mb ram, 5 inch screen.

Even if some rom does start up, the screen is striped, like really, really striped, the phone reacts on swiping, but the screen is unreadable.

I have narrowed down possible causes of this issue to wrong "lk.bin" file. I've tried multiple roms, like for Cubot C11, Dooge DG300, Zoppo P580, HDC Note 3. None of this works any good, screen is still striped. I've also tried roms for similar devices from this manufactor, with no success.

Does someone have a similar lk.bin file, or a stock rom, that could work? Thank you so much in advance.

Here is a photo of the screen:

Oh, I cannot post links, so just paste it after "imgur.com": d2oebvW

[HOW TO] Convert back Qualcomm's DTB to DTS file, extract kernel config

I assume you are a ROM builder. When your device vendor continue violate the GPL, refuse to open the device kernel source, let's we reverse engineering our device stock kernel.

Dedicated to ex Google Hugo Barra. Ends up as a GPL violator a pretty miserable.

Tools:
  1. Python tool csplitb https://github.com/mypalmike/csplitb

  2. dtc binary from out/target/product/<device>/obj/KERNEL_OBJ/scripts/dtc

  3. unpackbootimg from out/host/linux-x86/bin

  4. extract-ikconfig from kernel/<vendor>/<device>/scripts

Copy all needed tools to your PATH, $HOME/bin/

Steps:
  1. Unpack stock boot.img using unpackbootimg:

    Code:

    $ mkdir boot
    $ cd boot
    $ unpackbootimg -i ../boot.img -o .

  2. Split DT image to DTB files, for MSM8916 in this example:

    Code:

    $ mkdir dtb
    $ cd dtb
    $ csplitb.py --prefix msm8916- --suffix .dtb --number 4 D00DFEED ../boot.img-dt

  3. Find proper DTB file for your device, device model "Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. MSM 8916 QRD SKUM" string from my device dmesg output in this example:

    Code:

    $ grep -r "QRD SKUM"
    Binary file msm8916-0011.dtb matches

  4. Convert DTB to DTS files:

    Code:

    $ dtc -I dtb -O dts -o ../msm8916-0011.dts msm8916-0011.dtb
    $ cd ../

  5. Extract kernel config

    Code:

    extract-ikconfig boot.img-zImage > msm8916_defconfig

Doesn't see any folders in SDCARD folder with any file manager

Hi, I've got a problem. Some time ago I installed GPE ROM on ma M7. Then everyting was working properly except ADB. I wasn't able to debugg any app on my phone, cause it was still showing that device is offline. So, I decided to try to factory reset my phone. After that I can't see any folder in SDCARD folder. I used several file managers including "Root Browser" and "ES Eksplorator". Both shows that SDCARD folder is empty. Additionaly, when I plug my phone to PC i see only 4 folders, every of them are empty and I can't copy anything to my phone.
PC
What is more interesting, in TWRPs File Manager I can see all my folders and files:

Do you have any ideas where the problem is? I've factory reseted my phone 2 times and still the same.

What happened to the settings.db file for unlimited WiFi tether

Opened sqlite editor and looked for the settings.db file for WiFi tether on T-Mobile and its no longer there. Was it intentionally hidden to prevent changing the files? Anyone know how to expose the files if they are there? 7gb isn't enough to tether. Thanks.

Resurrection Remix Camera File Numbering

I am running Resurrection Remix LP v5.5.6. Does anyone have any idea about how the photos in the camera app are numbered?

The first part of the file name i understand. It's year, month and date. Its the second part i don't get. The numbers appear to be random and definitely not consecutive. But the latest photo is always a number greater than the previous.

Here's an example of three consecutive photos taken.
IMG_20151006_131116
IMG_20151006_131457
IMG_20151006_131513

Note the big jump in the numerical sequence, ie 116, then 457, then 513.

How come?

Thanks for the help
