NOOB to Note 4, on OF5 with starter questions

Hello everyone, just picked up a note 4 and was wondering if i could get guided into the right direction.

Am hoping to install a custom rom, seeing as how my about me says that I am on OF5 I can root and install TWRP through ODIn via the instructions posted on galaxynote4root.com ?

If I want to use features such as S Note, sign pdfs, and have the thimbprint reader I assume I need to run a touchwiz custom rom? It was like that for the Note 2. Any guidance towards slimmed out roms? On my old S3 I was on darkslim and would love to find something of a fast and stable rom that can be themed entirely black while using the extra features of the note that are actually useful.

If I want to use viper audio does that lock me into aosp or touchwiz specifically?

From the little I have browsed so far, the NOTERIZED rom looks to be the one?
Other things that slightly stood out would be Hybrid-x, obar,SOKP?

What is the deal with 5.1.1? Something about a locked bootloader that forces use to run a custom kernel?Do I not have to worry about that because of OF5? Am I slightly screwed because I'm not on OB7? There's issues such as no wifi calling? Would this affect sprint spark? I'm in an area where this is available. ..

Any other suggestions? Are my desires too contradictory? Btw is there anything that allows me to have my wallpapers change everyday? I'm currently using AllianceRom for my note 2 and there is a feature in which the colors of my theme change everyday...

Would really appreciate any and all help.
Lastly, thanks again for reading this far.

-Bryan

Noob Sprint Galaxy S3 Bricked? Newb!

So a buddy of mine offered to install some custom software in my Sprint Samsung Galaxy S3(SPH-L710).

The phone will now boot to the splash screen and do nothing but stay stuck there. I would just like to get the phone back to normal but the phone was never backed up before this was attempted.

I'm in dire need of assistance to get the phone to perform how it did beforehand.

What do I need to download, install, anything, to get the phone working again....

Noob to Android - advice needed to buy device for development.

Have done some basic android app development using someone else's device to test. I am working on my personal app for which I need a device to test as my app is based on sensors and gps. I wouldn't be charging money for my app (so no earnings at my end) and I am kind of short on budget too as have to buy some an Apple device to test the app for iOS and then the developers account for both to publish the apps.

Question - Usually how many OS upgrades does Android allow? If I can get some device within 0 that would be best else I was thinking something around 0. I came across some used devices on Swappa and a LG G2 deal within 0, but those devices were released around August 2013 with Kitkat version of OS. Any other options to buy cheap android device just for development?

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but my app development is on hold just because I don't have a device to test. Thanks in advance!! :)

Extremely noob TWRP question

So I just started using TWRP and its awesome :D and I wanted to a simple cache partition wipe like you know the wipe cache partition on a stock recovery, so I was wondering if I should just select the Cache option in the Wipe menu or both the Cache and the Dalvik Cache?

htc sensation stuck on htc screen....complete noob!

Hi folks...i flahsed my sensation about 2 years ago...i have no idea which rom i used....i have a collection of roms and gapps...but have no idea which goes with which...

all i can tell you is im pretty sure it was a jellybean rom...and my sensation booted up with a beats audio logo.......

it started to run slowly lately so i flashed the rom using the recovery mode...wipe data / cache / install zip from sd card....

all looked ok until it gets stuck at htc screen

tried the following...
cm-10.1-RC2-20130517-Albinoman887-pyramid.zip / gapps-jb-20130301-signed.zip / Android_Revolution_HD-Sensation_7.3.zip / cm-11-20140329-Sultan-3.4-pyramid.zip / pa_gapps-modular-micro-4.4.2-20140321a-signed.zip
if anybody could tell me what gapp goes with what rom....or point me in direction of a new rom/gapp... not bothered about lollypop or anything like that...just a good working jellybean / kitkat?

sorry for being dumb in this subject - thanks

OTA Update error after Root. Complete Noob.

Hello everyone,

Recently I decided to root my Canvas A1 to un-install bloatware.
I was successful in doing so. However, now I am unable to install any OTA updates.
I do get the notification, but the update fails and gives an error.
I am a noob into the whole Android Development Ecosystem, so I have no idea what is custom recovery, how does it work and what should I do with it.
I could not understand the answer already posted in this forum, so I am re-asking the question in a hope that some kind fellow will help me.
I wish to revert back to original set-up, so that I can receive all OTA updates from Google. Can anyone please explain me the whole procedure, in some layman terms? I will be highly grateful.

Regards,

Noob difficulty in flashing stock marshmallow

I'm having some difficulty flashing Marshmallow onto my Nexus 6. It is the first time I am flashing a rom onto this.

I'm running Linux for this. (Mint 17.2) as I ran into trouble with Windows 10 and OSX El Capitan and recognising my device.

I've got the rom unpacked but when I go to flash with flash-all.sh I get an error.

Code:

(bootloader) Data size exceeds download buffer
FAILED (remote failure)
finished. total time: 4.620s

It then dumps me back to the bootloader on the device. I did come across this thread from a while back.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexu...t2948624/page3

It hasn't resolved my problem. I've tried following the long method for installing the rom but it isn't working. I can't get the first stage to execute. I don't seem to actually have a file called bootloader.img anywhere. Is that the problem? Is it missing in this rom?

I'm perfectly happy to completely wipe the device. (It is only 3 days old) I just want to get the stock firmware up and running.

Android noob desperatley needs help resurrecting his tablet

So last week I was messing around with SP Flash tool and tried to flash my phone's stock rom which I finally found on the internet because I have a uncommon model. So after flashing everything went ok, except for the fact that my phone refused to power on, I would plug it into a power source and it would tell me it's charging but refuse to power on, until now I thought the power button broke coincidentally. But, 10 mins ago I decided to mess around even more and did the same thing to my new perfectly working non-rooted tablet (for which I also installed usb drivers and got stock flash files). So here's what I did, it was out of batter and it powered down, so I plugged it into my laptop and I got the sound that it was detected. I opened Flash tools and went into memory test just to see if I got the same results as I did on my phone, I got an error that I have no idea what it said but basically I think it said it didn't detect my device and I should format it or something. So i plugged it out and it refused to turn on. I plugged it into AC charging and nothing happened, I pulled it in and out and tried to power it on but nothing is happening...
Can someone please help me, my tablet still has warranty so I can take it to the store and get it fixed, but I know now that my phone isn't broken physically. Any way, if I can get clear instructions on how to fix my tablet and or phone I would be grateful.
My phone is an Alcatel 4030x (running Android 4.1) and my tablet is a Lenovo Tab 2 A7-10 (running Android 5)
P.S - my tablet does not have a removable battery
