HOWTO: Disable “Transfer data to SD Card” Notification in Lollipop

Hey Folks,

I thought I'd share this, because it took me much time to find this solution.

For all those who, like me, get really annoyed by the “Transfer data to SD Card, internal storage is 75% full” notification, which constantly pops up on stock lollipop roms, even if there is more than 2GB of space left, there is a simple way to get rid of it:

On non-rooted phones, you will have to connect your phone to your pc and use adb. If you don't know what adb is, ask google...
In the adb shell, type this command:

Code:

adb shell pm hide com.sonymobile.storagechecker

Now you will never see this stupid notification again :)

On rooted phones, you don't need a pc with adb. Simply open terminal emulator and type this commands:

Code:

su
pm hide com.sonymobile.storagechecker

Enjoy!

Disable wifi from userland

I'm using a chrooted debian within Android on a jb tablet. I would like to enable and disable wifi from a cronjob within debian. Is it possible to do it with the help from the sys or the proc filesystem?
I'm also thinking of writing a small utility in c to do the job so i'm looking for the c equivalent of the java wifimanager.wifisetenabled(). Is it a possible solution?

Cheers

Issues with wp mod to disable system write protection

I'm a total noob to phone development, so when I read guides about installing the wp_mod, I'm confused. It's the last step to rooting this and getting rid of this crapware, so I really want to get it done. I downloaded the file and I copied it to my SD, downloaded terminal emulator to run the su command, but that's where I get lost. Can anyone sort of walk me through it? Thank you.

A similar module for this was created before, however, the dev hasn't updated it in over a month.

Link to Source and Download:
on Xposed. (I'm not allowed to post links yet :P)

any issues, please post them here. I will keep this app updated.

Way to disable top speaker? (it's blown)

So, I just had my m9 replaced because the vibration module stopped working. Luckily I was s-off so I was able to get it back to stock for HTC's repair center.

The problem is, the one they sent me has a blown speaker out of the box. Even bigger problem is, I didn't think to check for problems with the speaker right away since I expect at least a little quality control, so I'm already rooted again.

Since I'd rather not pay 25 bucks to sunshine to get my phone back to root so I can send it in, is there a way to just turn disable one speaker? Even switching the balance completely over to the other would work. Any help or suggestions are appreciated

Disable some cores for reducing heat/battery drain?

Hi, I have just rooted my H959 on android 5.1.1.

Even playing games without stunning graphic like "Puzzle and Dragons",
my phone's temperature is still high and it drains a lot during that. :(
I am thinking about disabling some CPU cores for reducing heat/battery drain?
Is it a good idea to disable let say 2 cores to make it perform like S808 (with better GPU tho) ?

Anyone tried this before and how was the result?

Disable OTA - Keep SDCard Write Access and Use a Different Launcher *READ BEFORE BOOT

This must be done before the first time you connect to Wifi or you will likely receive the update that will "fix" the two features in the title. I purchased a second Fire to determine what it would take to disable the initial OTA. At no time connect to Wifi until all this is complete!

The steps are basically as follows:

Boot the fire the first time and bypass the setup.

Enable ADB by going to Settings> Device Options. Keep tapping on the Serial Number field until the Developer options field appears.

Under Developer options Enable ADB

Hook the Fire up to your computer and do the following commands:

adb shell pm hide com.amazon.otaverifier
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.device.software.ota
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.settings.systemupdates

I don't know which of three is the magic one, But you can not longer go to device options > system update. It also never appears to pull down the update in the background. I've rebooted multiple times and used the tablet on wifi with no update to 5.0.1.

This will work on a fresh out of the box tablet but once updated, well you've got to wait for other more talented people to figure out how to get root.

How To Disable Force Encryption - Nexus 6 - FED-Patcher v7 [ 7 Oct 15 ] (Easy)

I seen a lot of Discussion On this topic, and found a really simple way to disable Forced Encryption and it also removes the warning at boot. This in NO WAY is my work at all. I am sharing this [FIX] FED-Patcher v7 (ForceEncrypt Disable Patcher) which was posted by @gladiac. Absolutely make sure you head over to his forum and hit the Thanks button. This works great

Preparation

1. Download fed_patcher_v7-signed.zip and check here to verify the latest version
2. Download [BETA][2015.10.06] SuperSU v2.50 by @Chainfire
3. Download Whatever ROM you are going to use. I am currently running [ROM]【6.0】LightROM - Marshmallow【MRA58K】- Oct 7c

Instructions

1. Backup your SD Card, during this process, everything will be erased during the process
2. Reboot into TWRP, this is important that you actually have TWRP
3. Perform a Full Wipe by doing the following:

  1. Press Wipe

  2. Press Advanced

  3. Click every check Box

  4. Wipe 3x for good measure

  5. Press Home button

  6. Press Wipe

  7. Press Format Data

  8. Type yes in the box to perform the format

  9. Perform this 3x for a good full wipe

4. Unplug your usb cable and plug it back in
5. On the computer, open My computer
6. Navigate to and open the Nexus 6 Drive
7. Drag the Zip files to your Phone - 1) fed_patcher_v7-signed.zip, 2) BETA-SuperSU-v2.50.zip, 3) ROM Zip
8. Flash your ROM 1st (DO NOT BOOT AFTER FLASHING)
9. Wipe Dalvick Cache/Cache 3x
10. Flash fed_patcher_v7-signed.zip
11. Wipe Dalvick Cache/Cache 3x
12. Flash BETA-SuperSU-v2.50.zip
13. Reboot and Enjoy with no more red error sign during boot and no encryption

Supported Devices
  • Motorola Nexus 6 (shamu)

Version History
  • v1 - Initial version with HTC Nexus 9 WiFi (flounder) support

  • v2 - Added Motorola Nexus 6 (shamu) support

  • v3 - Added support for HTC Nexus 9 LTE (flounder_lte)

  • v4 - Added support for signed boot-images

  • v5 - Changed error handling to compensate for missing fstab files. Some roms seem not to ship with the complete set of boot-files from AOSP.

  • v6 - FED-Patcher will enforce the same structure for the patched boot.img that the original boot.img had. Additionally, the kernel commandline will also be taken over. This should fix pretty much every case where devices would not boot after patching.

  • v7 - FED-Patcher will now disable dm-verity in fstab to get rid of the red error sign on marshmallow roms.

What Do I need To Make This Work?
  • A supported device (Your nexus 6)

  • An unlocked bootloader

  • An already installed ROM with forceencrypt flag. (like cyanogenmod CM12.1)

  • A recovery that includes busybox (TWRP, CWM)

How Do I Use it?
  • Follow Instructions above - This is the basic need to know information

  • Make a thorough, conservative backup of your data if there is any on your device

  • Go into your recovery (TWRP, CWM)

  • Flash fed_patcher-signed.zip

  • If your device is already encrypted (You booted your ROM at least once) you need to do a full wipe to get rid of the encryption. This full wipe will clear all your data on your data-partition (where your apps as well as their settings are stored) as well as on your internal storage so please, do a backup before. If you don't do a backup and want to restore your data... well... Call obama.

IMPORTANT: If you update your ROM you have to run FED-Patcher again because ROM-updates also update the boot-partition which effectively removes my patch. So, if you are on CM12.1 for example and you used my patch and do an update to a newer nightly you have to run FED-Patcher again. If you don't do so Android will encrypt your device at the first boot.

Is It Dangerous?
Well, I implemented tons of checks that prevent pretty much anything bad from happening. But, of course, we're dealing with the boot-partition here. Even though I tested FED-Patcher quite a lot there is still room for crap hitting the fan.

All Thanks To:
  • @gladiac - For Putting the OP together for the Nexus 9 and sharing this

  • @rovo89 - for his xposed framework - I used some of his ideas by reading the source of his xposed installer flashable ZIP for FED-Patcher.

  • @pbatard - for making (un)mkbootimg (dunno if he is on xda)

Disable Services App going berserk...

Today I tried fiddling a bit with this app. It's all good but after disabling a couple services in the Gmail app and finding out that they were needed a few minutes later, it seems like whenever I try bring them back to their prior unfrozen state they just won't stick, and every time I open the app they appear to be unchecked again. I'd really love to keep using this app but I damn sure need Gmail so...any idea on why this might be happening?
