What launcher do you use

Touchwiz is a bit more refined than the resource hog it was a number of years ago but it's still not good enough.

I've tried them all and always go back to Nova Launcher, it's definitely the best of them all IMO.

Launcher starts before SIM is unlocked

Please answer me this:
Is it normal for android devices that they display the unlock SIM card NumPad only for a short while, after which the launcher/homescreen starts normally?
I just found this out, and now I'm really unsure if it was like this from the beginning or only after i started modding...

in any case, is it possible to delay the start of the homescreen/launcher until the sim card is unlocked?

the phone is rooted by now, xposed framework installed...
it's a triple sim acer liquid e700.
the behavior seems to be the same with all launchers: the original "Acer Home", Nova Launcher, Apex Launcher...

Does anyone know how to password protect Nova Launcher settings?

Hi all, I'm new to this forum. In fact, this is my very first post here. I'm wondering if anyone out there knows of a way to lock the settings of Nova Launcher? I've tried a number of circumventing attempts to try and do this very thing. I find it incredibly difficult to fathom that the dev of such a great launcher, has never incorporated this option in the app. Especially since, one would think it an important part of such an app, since if you screen unlock your device for someone to use, then unbeknownst to you, they either intentionally or inadvertently, change your Nova settings.

I tried using a few different app locks out there, and despite Nova Settings widget sitting in the drawer, those app locks don't recognise the widget as a seperate entity in the list of apps to lock, that they bring up, from your device. Instead, only the Nova Launcher widget itself shows. But if I select it, any app lock will just lock the whole launcher and I need to unlock the launcher every single time I do anything on it. And that is tediously annoying!

I know that the dev was away on personal matters for a long while in the past and subsequently had not worked on updates for that time. He had responded to my inquiry about this several months back citing that he may include settings password protection in the future.

I have a Samsung GS4 dual sim. It is rooted, and I have Xposed Framework and several working modules on the phone. My apologies if this post is too long. I'm new and will aim to keep queries shorter in future.

Android - Advanced launcher Error: Cannot create launchers.xml

Hi Guys,

I have been unsuccessfully trying to setup Advanced launcher on my Amazon fire tv running isengard non rooted and need a bit of help as I couldn't find any lead through different forums.

As soon as I create a launcher I get the error: "Cannot create launchers.xml file" ; "cannot do backup"

However I have been able to locate my launchers.xml file and here is what it contain:

Code:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?>
<advanced_launcher version="1.0">

            <lnk></lnk>
            <roms>
            </roms>
        </launcher>
    </launchers>
</advanced_launcher>

On kodi forums I have been told that maybe I do not have permissions to create/update launchers.xml file with Advanced launcher. I have tried to change permissions through adb shell in chmod but it seems that because I am not rooted, I cannot do that either !

Any Ideas ?

Thanks a lot

Disable OTA - Keep SDCard Write Access and Use a Different Launcher *READ BEFORE BOOT

This must be done before the first time you connect to Wifi or you will likely receive the update that will "fix" the two features in the title. I purchased a second Fire to determine what it would take to disable the initial OTA. At no time connect to Wifi until all this is complete!

The steps are basically as follows:

Boot the fire the first time and bypass the setup.

Enable ADB by going to Settings> Device Options. Keep tapping on the Serial Number field until the Developer options field appears.

Under Developer options Enable ADB

Hook the Fire up to your computer and do the following commands:

adb shell pm hide com.amazon.otaverifier
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.device.software.ota
adb shell pm hide com.amazon.settings.systemupdates

I don't know which of three is the magic one, But you can not longer go to device options > system update. It also never appears to pull down the update in the background. I've rebooted multiple times and used the tablet on wifi with no update to 5.0.1.

This will work on a fresh out of the box tablet but once updated, well you've got to wait for other more talented people to figure out how to get root.
