[Q] Installing Android M OTA manually on Android M preview

Currently my Nexus 5 is on Android M preview. I am trying to manually install OTA of Android M public release, but I get these errors on 50%:

failed to verify whole-file signature
signature verification failed Installation aborted

device details:
no root
no custom recovery
just bootloader unlocked
no changes in system files

Does manually installing Android M final release OTA work on device running on Android M preview? Or do I need to downgrade it to Lollipop first?

How to manually download and update Android?

Hi guys, a few years ago we purchased a box based on Android. It was made user friendly for older people to watch Chinese channels, it's not the famous TVPAD, it's something called an IPLAYER I5. Anyway, I don't think this company is providing anymore updates, and so its a nice paper weight now. However, it is android and it's 4.2.

I plan to use it for Kodi, but I'm just wondering about the future. Kodi now requires at minimum 4.2, which makes us okay. But what if this requirement is changed in the future? Is there a way to make my box current, like Android 5.0 at least?

BTW, who provide updates for a hardware? The hardware maker, or does the system automatically search for an update? I've never been clear about that. But since I did go to the updates to check for updates and it says none is available, then I'm guessing it's the hardware maker?

Recover data after manually update to Andoid 6

Hi all!

So I downloaded Android 6 from Googles site and manually updated and of course the phone was wiped! And today I remembered I had a lot of photos from our vacation and of the kids (when my youngest was born etc) and whatnot that got lost as well :( Is there any way to recover these? I've tried looking for guides on here, but the ones i found that were kind of relevant are old ones and links to files that was needed is dead.

If it is possible, could anyone please point me to a good guide and tools needed? I'm really hoping this works. I screwed up :(

Manually flashing 6.0, will this approach still work?

To start: 5.1.1 (LMY48M), rooted, with TWRP for recovery

For every 5.x update so far, this has been my procedure using fastboot:

1. Flash boot.img


2. Flash radio.img


3. Flash system.img

After successfully updated, I'd use WugFresh's Nexus toolkit to root and flash TWRP.

I'm a fan of not needing to flash userdata.img, as I don't think that should be necessary given that the OTA wouldn't wipe installed apps and such.

I've read other threads about using fastboot to upgrade and am concerned about the boot warnings, which seem to require a custom kernel to circumvent. My question is: will the above approach still work? Do I need to flash any other files? If I need to flash a custom kernel, where do I get it, how do I flash it (is it just a custom boot.img?), and at which point in the flash sequence should I apply it?

Secondly, has anyone tried gaining root through the Nexus toolkit once upgraded to 6.0?

I'm looking for recommendations so I don't spend hours trying to unbrick my device. Thanks!

Manually powering off

So I dropped my Note this morning which must have caused the screen to become unplugged. I'd like to open it up, but would want to power it down before I do so. Unfortunately, it was at nearly 100% battery and when in standby barely uses power. Is there a way to manually shut the Note down?

Manually flashed 6.0 stock images, but only get dead android for recovery

I have searched around but cannot find a solution. I can't seem to get a working recovery after flashing stock images with and without TWRP 2.8.7.1.

I followed these steps to upgrade to Android 6.0 after verifying the md5 checksum of my download:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-hammerhead....img [it looks the same as before, but I did it anyway]
reboot bootloader
fastboot flash radio radio-hammerhead....img
reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
....I have also tried with and without flashing cache
fastboot reboot
...then I go back into the bootloader and try to access recovery, but I only get the dead android with the red triangle.

Is anyone else having this problem? Does anyone have a suggestion for a fix?
I'm having the same problem with my Nexus 7 (2013).
