[Marshmallow] Preventing "High Priority" apps from waking up the device from Doze

As you surely know, Android M introduces Doze, which should increase battery life. Also unused apps are put into standby mode to further increase battery performance. However, high priority apps, will still be able to send you notifications and wake the device during Doze. There is one big problem: not users, but developers get to decide if their app qualifies as "high priority". Obviously every dev thinks that of his app, which would make Doze basically useless. Now I'm sure if devs start abusing this, Google will step in and let the users decide if they think those apps are high priority or not (similar to what happened with Heads-Up Notifications). But until Google decides to change this, is there any way for us to prevent apps from interrupting Doze, even if they are marked "high priority" by the dev? The same goes for Standby: can we prevent apps that have been put in auto standby from sending notifications?

Waking up from ambient mode

I have ambient mode on. I do noticed that it does not wake up from ambient mode and I either need to tap screen or click on the crown to wake it up (I verify by seeing the seconds hand showing up ). Is this normal? Gesture setting is off.
