Very basic questions about rooting Kindle Fire

I'd like to root my Kindle Fire (2nd gen, I think - system version is 6.3.4_user4120720). I can't post a link to the method I'm planning to use, but a google search for "techhive how to root your kindle fire pcworld" will take you right to it.

My questions: Which version of the Android OS will I end up with when this process is done? Once the Kindle is rooted, is it then possible to install later (or the latest) versions of the OS, or does the device itself limit what can be installed?

The reason I want to root is that as certain web sites have become more complicated, the Silk browser has become pretty much useless. It's almost impossible to read the news any more. Pages bounce all over the place, or the browser crashes as pages load their nonsensical graphics and animations. I'm hoping that rooting will open up options for installing a better browser. In addition, my Kindle is no longer able to run the current version of Dropbox, which is important to me. And finally, it'll be refreshing to get rid of the stupid carousel!

Hi there, I received a replacement Kindle Fire HDX 64 10.1 inch tablet. I have not allowed it to upgrade therefore if has the 14.3.2.1 OS. How do I root the device without being able to connect to the internet? Can ne one help me. I really want a rooted Kindle and have been reading so many posts that I am completely confused. I've never done root before and I don't want to get it wrong. I know that it must be backed up first but, I don't even know how to go about doing that. The Kindle I am using right now has the OS 4.5.5. From everything I've read, it is very complicated to root that version of Fire. If there is anyone who can guide me, or point me in the right direction, please, I would be eternally grateful. Thanks. Oh, BTW, the Kindle is 3rd generation.

Hard Bricked Kindle Fire HD 8.9 jem BC09

I've hardbricked a Kindle Fire HD 8.9 jem BC09 which was running 8.5.1 before it became a paperweight.

I successfully rooted the device with Bin4rys method, at which point I followed cyanogenmod's directions on installing the bootloader(otter2 CM install instructions on their website)

I verified the MD5 checksum for the bootloader before proceeding.

At the point where I attempted to reboot into recovery, the device became completely bricked. No response to power on, etc.

As I've been browsing for the past hour it seems to me that this device is virtually unbrickable aside from sending it to Amazon. I have contacted "Chris" at prokennexusa@gmail.com and am awaiting his response. In the meantime, if anyone else has any ideas of how to proceed please let me know!

Kindle Fire vs Nook HD?

Trying to decide between these two devices for my son. It looks like I can get a manufacturer refurb Nook HD for about the same price as a new Kindle (with Special Offers).

He is interested mostly for reading books, so book selection (both buying and borrowing for free from libraries) is a top concern.

Also interested in web browsing, email, and some games.

I'M interested in how hackable it is, installing a better version of Android on it, unleashing some more potential, etc.

Thoughts? Advice? Thanks.

Kindle Fire Logo Bootloop

Hi! As the title says, my Kindle Fire is bootlooping the logo. I can get into fast boot mode, and I tried using a restore tool and it showed everything was downloading to it in the top left corner of the screen, but it's still looping the logo. Can anyone help? It'd be greatly appreciated!

I used KFHD SRT 1.3.5 to recover KFHD 7 (2012) from "Red Screen Of Death" successfully and it even updated itself to 7.5.1.
But it again developed RED screen falt within a day. Now even if I use different KFHD SRT versions right from 1.2 to 1.3.5 it is not recovering.

I also tried using bootloader, boot, recovery from Amazon 7.5.1 update.zip However it went till your Kindle cannot boot Reset or Reboot option screen.

Can I get system.img for 7.5.1 ? or is it due to some other fault.

kindle fire hd 7 no os no twrp all has ben wiped.. it is at the white and orange loading screen. i used twrp to install the kindle fire again i had cynagen mod on it and wanted to sell it it said succesful no its stuck at first screen and thats it i cant get it to recovery i belive i wiped both internal and os storage is complety wiped. is there anything i can user to get a operateing system on it.
