Complete newbie, would like to update my rooted I9305

Pardon me for asking, but I would like some help with my Galaxy S3. A friend helped me root it a few years ago when I first got it, but I don't keep in touch with him anymore and I don't know how to update its firmware now.

I know it's rooted for sure as I've got SuperSU and Titanium Backup installed on it, but I've been on Android 4.1.2 for years now because I can't update it normally anymore. Everytime I look into trying to do so, I'm confused as to which method or files I should use, so I would really appreciate some help here.

Just a couple of queries first.
1) Is it possible to just update the firmware without any fancy ROM or anything like that?
2) Will I lose my data from doing so?

Again, please bear with me as I'm really new to all this and I might get some terms or understanding wrong. Thanks in advance.

6.0 Test Build by Sony is coming out if anyone would like to sign up.

First 10,000 people to sign up in the app in the link below would get the chance to test the Marshmallow beta build from Sony. This concept build isn't available in my country sadly. It's only available in Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom. If any of ya'll are there would ya'll like to sign up and give us a heads up on Sony's new Marshmallow concept build?

[Q] Would it be possible to port 64-bit A7 roms to the Exynos Note 4?

The Exynos Note 4 runs 32-bit software on 64-bit hardware. So far, I wasn't even able to find 64-but custom ROMs for it.

However, the Galaxy A7 has the same CPU (Exynos 5433), and apparently has 64-bit Android.

Would it be possible to get 64-bit support on the Note 4 by porting A7 ROMs?
