Sleep or Standby mode in Chromecast

Hi There,
I have one of my Chromecasts connected to a big monitor with speakers. When I stop casting the monitor never goes to sleep unless I power it off because of Chromecast backdrop. If google adds functionality in Chromecast to put it in sleep or Standby mode or a mode in which it is not sending any signal to HDMI the monitor or the TV will automatically go to sleep. Amazon Fire TV stick goes to sleep after 20 minutes of inactivity (http://www.aftvnews.com/fire-tv-stic...rced-to-sleep/). I feel Chromecast should be able to go to this mode after there is not user input for predefined time like we have in computers, laptops and even in mobile phones. But google has not added this functionality. Probably developer can make a App to add this function.

Thank you

Chromecast 2 device-desc.xml

Hey folks.

I am developing an application to use the Chromecast with linux. I still supports the first one, but I also want to support the new Chromecast 2015.
For that I need the device-desc.xml of that one. For my self I just bought the Chromecast Audio. So, I am kind of relying on you guys.

You can get it via:
wget h**p://<chromecast-ip>:8008/ssdp/device-desc.xml

Since i am new i am not allowed to post links here. Its not even a valid link. Please replace the 2 asterisks with tt ...

Neighbours pushing ERM things to my Chromecast

Hi all,

Have had a Chromecast for a while but hardly use it.

It's connected to my TV with a small USB so its self sufficient, also on my home WiFi (which is extremely secure)

Recently my wife turned our TV in our bedroom on to find some porn rolling  as she's trying to turn it off (not knowing it was the Chromecast ) I woke up  first thing I saw was a blurry image through my hazy eyes of a woman at the end of a mop pole ???

Needless to say my eyes opened up rather quickly after that, then I clicked, it was the Chromecast (which as i said, I only ever use every now and again)

So I checked to see what the content was and it was just lots of small videos looping one after another, seems the guest mode switch was on and left on, not sure if it was from someone's browser or from their phone, but it was certainly not anyone in our household. Its really annoying me now that a neighbour would do this to another neighbour.

Now, I'd obviously like to know who this is so I can give them a small physical warning in manners and / or if there's been a crime committed here (not too sure on that one)

So my question is quite simple, can I get a Mac address from the Chromecast ? An IP address or even a device ? Anything to grab their identity, I know I can simply switch off guest mode which I now have but I want to know.

Apologies for being a little graphic with the content, believe me I've missed out quite a bit.

Any help would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

PS: I also understand that from an outside perspective that this sounds hilarious and I've had a giggle about it too, however if one of the kids had turned the TV on and had seen that (luckily that didn't happen) then I would not be so calm about it.

I do not think the V1 chromecast is updateable thru the HTTP Post request.

I tried it and it's not picking up any updates.

NEW 2015 "Lemon" Chromecast Not displaying video.

Sorry for the CAPS but I am PO'd

Got my 2015 Lemon Chromecast (maybe google should take a lesson from CHEVY NOVA and rename) and have set it up on 3 different makes and vintage HDMI 1080p TVs and the factory charger. Each time I could see the setup page in the TV display formatted correctly. Each time after displaying video for maybe 10 minutes the TV display goes black and I am unable to get it to display anything? One time I was able to actually watch a few minutes of HBOgo before the display froze and the only way to clear was to reboot Chromecast.

Currently I can connect via Chromecast Android app and make changes to 2015 Lemon Chromecast using "devices" tab. I can reboot remotely using devices tab. I can reset to factory as well. CSR had me do this until it would no longer display anything even after reboot.

It appears I am connected but my 2015 Lemon is not displaying video.

I started a 20 minute chat on Monday with google that only resulted in calling an 800 number. So I called and wasted another 40 minutes rebooting and resetting over and over again without result. After 40 minutes I needed to go to a meeting.
Yesterday I received an email from the supervisor of the Customer Service Rep I wasted 40 minutes with on Monday wanting more info with pictures, documented sales info, etc?

COME ON GOOGLE, I bought this LEMON online from your store you have the info. I have invested and more than 1 hour with NO RESULTS.

I have purchased 6 old style Chromecasts and believe I am quite knowledgeable in Casting even setting up Internet Sharing on WIndows 8.1 to make private network in hotel when necessary.

CHROMECAST CUSTOMER SERVICE IS REALLY WEAK!!!!! THERE IS NO MANUAL AVAILABLE? NO DOCUMENTATION TO SHOW WHAT THE BUTTON IS FOR?

I know these are so cheap they may be disposable but they should at least work.

GOOGLE! HOW DO I GET THIS EXCHANGED WITHOUT IT COSTING ME MORE TIME AND MONEY. THE HOUR I HAVE WASTED WITH THIS LEMON HAS EXCEEDED THE VALUE OF YOUR PRODUCT! SHAME ON YOU!!!!!!!

Anyone else with this problem? Solutions?
