Deaf Note 4

So I made the mistake of "upgrading" my Note 4 to Lollipop, and now it's almost deaf. It can't seem to get a good signal from the network anymore. It's constantly disconnecting and reconnecting to the network. It constantly drops calls, and it's basically useless as a phone now.

Some background:

The phone was fine on Kit Kat. I did the OTA update to 5.0.1 and I had this problem, as well as overheating and bad performance. I rolled it back to Kit Kat, but it was never quite the same. I think that the OTA update did something to the modem firmware (baseband?), but I don't know for sure if that would be the case. When 5.1.1 was available, I thought that maybe this was fixed, so I upgraded again, but the phone is still deaf. I wiped the cache and also did a factory reset on the phone, but nothing has really helped. I'm hoping that someone here can steer me in the right direction.

The phone is an international version (SM-N910H). The carrier is Cricket (AT&T network).

Is there anything that I can do to get it back to having a reliable connection again?
Can I flash a US version's firmware? (The modem hardware might be different, so I'm not sure.)
Is there any way to configure the modem's settings?
I certainly don't mind rooting and doing a little hacking. I'm an engineer, but I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to the nuts and bolts of Android.

I appreciate any help you can offer.
