I got an old G900T from a friend and called T-Mobile to unlock the sim so I can use the phone with another carrier. They called my friend to ask if it was okay and they said yes so they were going to provide me with the unlock code that would be emailed to me. The woman on the phone told me my friend still owed money on it so they could only issue me a temporary 30 day unlock and then after the 30 days it would be locked again until the phone is paid off. Once paid off I would be given a code that would unlock it permanently.
My question is, if I root and flash this phone with a custom rom will that prevent T-Mobile from locking it again after the 30 days? Or will they still be able to lock it after the 30 days has ended?

I would imagine that regardless of the mod or software you're using, that your phone will still be identified (thru the SIM) as T-Mobile in order to get service. Therefore, I believe that after 30 days, if using the same SIM, T-Mobile will re-lock it again until a payment is made for them to release a full unlock code for you. This information is associated by the SIM, not the software you install on the phone. I don't believe any ROM, etc will prevent that 30 day lock out since the OS on the phone isn't what connects it to T-Mobile. The SIM is what associates the phone to T-Mobile. I'm more of a computer geek than I am a phone geek. However, I too, am trying to figure out a good root for the LG Leon (without having to use Kingroot) to no avail. When using Kingroot, unknown info about your phone is sent to a server in China and still can't run a bootloader (necessary to install custom ROM's). Back to your answer, though, I'm pretty sure after 30 days they can re-lock the phone until the account is paid and they release a permanent unlock code for you. Sorry mate!
